ENTRIES CLOSE MONDAY OCTOBER 23 5PM.

In recognition of the success of the ACT Kyu Team at the Australian National Kendo Championships, the ANU Kendo Club is hosting an open Taikai focussing upon Kyu grades and shinpan on the weekend of 27 th & 28 th October 2007.

The Individual Competition is divided into four (4) categories:

  • Junior Kyu: Ungraded to 3 Kyu (up to 24 months experience)
  • Senior Kyu: 2 Kyu and 1 Kyu (including lower grades with more than 24 months experience)
  • Junior Dan: 1 Dan and 2 Dan
  • Senior Dan: 3 Dan and above
  • Women’s

The Teams Competition shall include:

  • Kyu Grade Teams
  • Dan Grade Teams
  • Women’s Teams

Saturday 28 th October

09:00 - 09:30 Shinai weigh-in

09:30 - 09:45 Welcome, Confirmation of Rules and Housekeeping

09:45 - 10:30 Shinpan Review

10:30 - 14:30 Individual Competitions (4 Categories as above)

14:30 - 15:30

15:30 - 16:30 Keiko

16:30 End Day 1

19:00 - 23:00 Dinner

Sunday 29 th October

09:30 - 09:45 Welcome, Confirmation of Rules and Housekeeping

09:45 - 10:15 Shinpan Review – Q & A recap on previous day

10:15 - 12:15 Teams competition - Dan grade

12:15 - 14:15 Teams competition - Kyu grade

14:15 - 15:15 Teams competition – Women’s

15:15 - 15:45 Presentations

15:45 - 16:30 Sayonara keiko

16:30 End Day 2

Note: Lunch will be available from 12:30 onwards each day.

Times may change depending on registration numbers.

Competition Rules

Entry:

All competitors must be members of the Australian Kendo Renmei – AKR Membership numbers need to accompany registrations.

Individual Matches:

Pools Matches: for categories 1 & 2 shall be 3 minutes and categories 3 & 4 shall be 5 minutes; but in the case of a large number of registrants, all matches shall be 3 minutes. Pools will be decided on number of matches won, then by most points, then by 1 point re-match in case of a draw.

After pools: Categories 1 & 2 will be 3 minute matches and categories 3 & 4 5 minute matches. There will be unlimited encho.

The winners of each category will be eligible to compete in the next category . Categories are based on grade.

Shinpan (Judges):

Category 2 competitors shall shinpan for Category 1

Category 3 competitors shall shinpan for Category 2 and Category 4

Category 4 competitors shall shinpan for Category 3

Category 4 competitors shall also support Category 2 and 3 shinpan

Shinpans

All 3 rd Dan & above are encouraged to bring their Judging Uniforms.

Team Competition Rules

Each dojo may submit one Kyu and one Dan team of up to five competitors.

Teams of four must compete in positions 1, 2, 3 and 4, forfeiting match 5.

Teams of three must compete in positions 1, 2 and 3, forfeiting matches 4 and 5.

Competitors can only play in one team – i.e.: Kyu or Dan (not both)

Matches shall be three minutes. Matches will be decided by number of matches won, then by points, and then by a one-point re-match between two team players.


 

General Information

Cost of the weekend

Cost for participants is $45.00. This includes entry to all competitions, seminar training, lunch on Saturday and Sunday. Entries for the competition will close on Monday 23 rd October at 5.00pm .

Location

The competition will be held at the ANU Sport and Recreation Associations new gymnasium (see attached map).

Shinai Weigh-in

The shinai weigh-in will commence on Saturday 28 th October 9.00am . As we will be preparing the venue on the Friday night we will be able to weigh-in shinai on the Friday night from 8.00-10.00pm for anyone who is interested, but if you want shinai weighed around 10pm please call ahead on 0405 981749 as we might have left by that time. Current IKF in ternational shinai weight rules apply.

Refreshments and Meals

Tea, coffee and cordial will be available all weekend. Lunches on both days will be served in the venue. The dinner on Saturday night will be at the Blue Elephant in Braddon commencing at 7.00pm with presentations to follow. Cost will be approximately $20.00 per person. If you have any special dietary requirements please put them in the space provided on the form. If in doubt please contact one of the organising committee.

Bogu Storage

The building will be locked on Saturday night but gear can be locked in the meetings room of the Sport and Recreation Association. The ANU Kendo club will take due care of these articles, but not absolute responsibility.

Please refer to the Wotif website at http://www.wotif.com.au. The deals on their website are very good (there are other standby accommodation websites). If you need to know where in regards to the event venue your accommodation is, please contact one of the organising committee.

The New Gynmasium at the ANU Sport and Recreation Association (SRA ) at the Australian National University (ANU).
